Abstract
This monograph is a study of monastic organization and an analysis of “…religious role performance in terms of its correlation with the social and economic status of individual actors” (p. 1). The book contains a summary of the Thai social system, information on “the way of the monk,” the monk and the lay community, the monastery community, the monastery and its social matrix, the role of the Buddhist layman, and a theoretical discussion of the social system.
