Abstract
This short source describes some key ideas about human character among Bang Chan villagers. Principally, the author describes notions about life's “two vital essences” as seen by rural Thai, the KHWAN and the WINYAN. Their relationship to Buddhist ideas about reincarnation and merit-making is discussed.
