Notes on the customs and popular superstitions of the Annamese

Excursions et Reconnaissances4 • Published In 1881 • Pages: 267-279

By: Landes, A., Huntington, Frank.

Abstract
This is one of a series of articles on Annamese customs which were published between 1880 and 1883. Landes was one-time mayor of Cholon, and the data for these articles evidently are the result of some years of experience and observation as a resident of Cochinchina. The present article is concerned with curing of illness through exorcism of spirits, and with the magicians and diviners who perform the cures. It also contains beliefs about the teeth, ears, and scalp, as well as an abstract of a folktale.
