The legal status of the Annamese woman

Abstract
In this Ph.D. thesis written at the University of Paris, Gentile-Duquesne shows that under Vietnamese law, the woman has status and rights equal to her husband's, and discusses the error of the early French administrators and jurists in Indochina who assumed that the woman was completely subjected to male domination. There is considerable discussion of the legally defined marriage regulations, family relationships, and property system as these subjects concern women. Both native Vietnamese law and French court discussions modifying native law are quoted and discussed in detail.
