By: Lattimore, Owen.

Abstract
This article is a study of Mongolia as a frontier area, with emphasis on the relationship between Chinese colonists and Mongol natives and the effect on this relationship of habitat and human ecology. There is some discussion of the role of the Lama Church in the acculturation process and an interesting description of the methods by which Chinese acquire Mongol lands. Lattimore is especially interested in the role of railroads in the Chinese expansion northward.
