Abstract
This work theorizes a Chinese model of social relationships and reciprocity, or "recipropriety," that encompasses concepts of face, fellow-feeling, and gift economy. The proposition is that this uniquely Chinese social psychology and ethic has guided behavior in the village of Kaixiangong throughout the post-Liberation era in spite of economic vicissitudes, and multiple changes in policy and administrative organization.
