Abstract
This essay considers patterns of landownership and tenancy both on the eve of and throughout the period of Japanese occupation. Archival and statistical data concerning the village of P'eng-fu are employed in Wickberg's discussion of regional economic development and the agricultural transformations wrought by the 'Green Revolution'. A number of hypotheses are considered in relation to the prevalence of landownership and tenancy, household size and income, and general economic change.
