Abstract
This monograph represents a straightforward and clearly written summary of an area, land use and rural economy, on which little information is available in English. A general summary of the environmental and industrial conditions of the country serves as an introduction to Korean agriculture, land utilization, land ownership and tenancy, exploitation of natural resources, and the several facets of the agricultural economy (labor, credit, marketing, standards of living). A final chapter describes Japanese colonization of the area. The text is remarkably free from political overtones and the data appear to be balanced well for those cases in which the source of data could be said to be suspect. 132 charts and 12 maps provide much useful information in concise form.
