Abstract
In this monograph, Works describes the culture of the Hausa in Chad. Many Hausa have settled in Chad because Chad has been a major part of a route that pilgrims traveled to reach Mecca. In the course of their pilgrimage many Hausa and other groups have settled permanently in Chad. The role of the Hausa as traders is another important reason for their presence in Chad. The pilgramage and trade are also important factors in the formation of a distinctive Hausa culture. Works suggests that these factors may also lead to a decline in the Hausa culture in Chad.
