Abstract
This document was orginally published as one of the sections in a four-part comprehensive ethnographic survey of the San (also called Bushmen) and Khoi (also called Hottentots) peoples which the author compounds by the name 'Khoisan'. The remaining three sections of the book, which deal with regional 'ethno-geography', 'San culture' and 'Khoisan language', are have been indexed for the San Collection. Most of the information on the Khoi is concerned with the Nama people, but references are also made to the Cape Hottentots. Topics covered in the document at hand include social organization, habits and customs, economic life, political structure, religious beliefs and magic, art and folklore.
