Abstract
This source is a brief description of Hottentot methods for the treatment of the sick and the injured. Types of treatment include herbal infusions, poutices, cupping, massage, and preventive medicine, including the use of charms, as well as magic. The technique of amputation is described briefly. It concludes with descriptions of native pharmaceuticals, their preparation and use. At the time of publication, Laidler was Medical Officer of Health, East London.
