Abstract
This source examines the past and present socioeconomic situation of the Basarwa (San and other associated groups), primarily through case studies of five Basarwa communities. The communities include Dobe, Kauri, Ghanzi, Bere, and Nata and represent subsistence patterns ranging from mobile, hunting and gathering groups to settled agropastoralism. Other topics that receive brief attention are San consciousness, and legal, political, and environmental issues affecting the Basarwa.
