By: Prins, Gwyn.

Abstract
This document presents an account of Lozi society during the years 1876-1896. The work is divided into four parts. Part 1 identifies the relevant contextual dimensions of time and space and then identifies the levels of social organization. Part 2 concentrates on the material components of Lozi society (e.g., labor, economics, etc.), examining various aspects of production, distribution and exchange, particularly in terms of the social relationships involved at each level. In part 3 Prins discusses the dualistic aspects of cosmology, and how this perception forms a common thread linking royal and public rituals. Part 4 is a narrative account of Lozi history and politics, dealing in large part with European contacts and especially with the missionary work of François and Christina Coillard.
