Abstract
In this study, Hinfelaar focuses on the role of women in the religion of the Bemba. He accomplishes this goal by presenting a description of their traditional religion which existed until missionary contact in the late nineteenth century. Bemba traditional religion centered around a 'house cult' of which women were at the head. Hinfelaar then provides a history of key developments in the Bemba conversion to Christianity focusing attention on the effects that Christianity had on the roles of women.
