Some notes on the Masai of Kenya Colony

Abstract
These notes were gathered by Mr. Leakey from four Maasai informants living on the Maasai Reserve in the Mau Escarpment of Kenya. The bulk of data is arranged in terms of the individual life cycle both for the Maasai man and woman, including the customs and activities associated with sex-age category. The rest of the material covers diverse aspects of the total Maasai culture, such as their sex offenses and sanctions, murder and compensation, diet and food preparation, and death and burial customs. In short, this is an itemized culture summary of the pastoral Maasai of Kenya as told to Leakey by his Kikuyu-speaking informants.
