Abstract
These notes describing the formation of a new age-set among the Maasai were prepared from data collected among the I'Sigirari tribe. They relate the whole procedure which leads to the founding of a new [n]sirit[/n] or warrior company including the roles of the elders and medicine man. In addition to the ceremonies themselves, the status and function of the elected leader of the initiates (called the [n]aigwenani[/n]) is also discussed.
