Abstract
This article describes the strategies of a group of rural Luo market women for coordinating their various family responsibilities subsistence production, income generation, child rearing, and household maintenance. It argues that the income-generating role of these women can be taken as an important entry for understanding all aspects of their other gender roles and strategies.
