Abstract
This study explores the relationship between the manifest content and the affective tone of the dreams of some 22 young Gusii women in terms of the social, emotional, and psychological tighrope on which they lead their lives. For the most part, these dreams, 88 in number, are tightly condensed and stereotyped. There is a notable absence of imagery and metaphor, and, despite the fact that they are frequent participants at ritual occasions, their dreams are largely denuded of cultural symbolism (p. 75).
