Abstract
This book provides first hand account of Yoruba culture and soceity based on ethnographic fieldwork in Ife town in 1937-1938, and additional studies in several other Yoruba communites in 1950-1951 and 1965. The book discusses the richnesss and complexity of Yoruba culture which includes a unique tradition of urban life, and very elaborate economic, political and social structures. It also shows the influences of Yoruba religious believes and art forms on the cultures of peoples of African origin in the Caribbean, Cuba Brazil and USA.
