Abstract
This document compares the experiences and attitudes of of three generations of Kikuyu women, in Kenya, concerning female circumcision, polygny, bridewealth payment, and age at first marriage. It shows that most women in the third generation who were in their twenties in 1990, have abandoned both female circumcision and polygny. Most of them attempt to construct a marriage arrangment that reflects their understanding of western Christian practices.
