Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document
In this short article, the authors present a brief and
clear-cut account of the relationship between the Dogon cosmogony and their social
organization in terms of a discussion of certain institutions and concepts -- the myths,
the man, the tribe, kinship, the territorial organization, the homestead, the Hogon (the
clothing, the homestead, the economic functions of the Hogon), totemism, technology
(iron-work and weaving) and international alliances. Apparently all the data discussed in
this paper are based on their fieldwork.
