Abstract
This is a brief examination of the economic geography of an island off the northwest coast of County Galway. The focus is on fishing and potato farming, the landscape, and the settlement pattern and population. The author notes that the relative comfort of the population was made possible only by government assistance; the island is not self-supporting under modern economic conditions.
