The place of truth in Sherpa law and religion

Journal of anthropological research33 • Published In 1977 • Pages: 167-184

By: Paul, Robert A..

Abstract
This article discusses Sherpa concepts of guilt and conflict resolution which the author believes may differ in part because of different cultural conceptions regarding the ontological status of events. Paul points out that within Sherpa culture there are some operational systems at work which view world events from an objective standpoint, while others tend to define these same events as 'illusory ephmera' (p. 167). This article presents examples of each type and what happens when they come into conflict.
