Abstract: Brief abstract written by HRAF anthropologists who have done the subject indexing for the document The introduction presents general information on the natural environment of Tierra del Fuego as a whole, with notes on the history and bibliography of the area and data on the culture status and physical type of the Fuegians. The section particularly pertinent to the Yahgans, titled 'The Canoe Indians,' includes a general survey of the culture with emphasis on its material and technological aspects. The final section again treats the Fuegian Indians generally, presenting an historical reconstruction of their origins and a comparison of their cultural status with that of the primitive Europeans, Seri, and Eskimo. This work may be considered as a complement to that of Gusinde.
