Being I-Kiribati

kiribati: a changing atoll culture[Suva, Fiji] • Published In 1985 • Pages: 1-15

By: Alaima Talu, M..

Abstract
This document discusses what it means to be I-Kiribati (native to Kiribati). The focus is on the unique experiences of the Kiribati as residents of widely dispersed atolls surrounded by a vast ocean. These include the centrality of village councils in governing local affairs, and an increasing reliance on imported food and remittance from migrant workers. For maps, glossary, and bibliography see Mason (1985).
