The Kula, a system of ceremonial exchange in the Massim region of Papua New Guinea, is the subject of this monograph. Malinowski describes the ethnography of the entire Massim region (of which the Trobriands are only a part), religion and magic in the Trobriands (especially in connection with the Kula), precise rules and aspects of the Kula, construction and navigation of different types of canoes, different kinds of Kula expeditions, mythology of the Kula, the articles used in the Kula exchange, and linguistic aspects of Kula magic.
