By: Abraham, Sameer Y..

Abstract
In this document Abraham describes the diverse Arab-American community in Detroit, Michigan, composed as it is of four major nationality groups -- Lebanese, Palestinians, Yemenis, and Iraq-Chaldeans. 'The diversity of the community is further evidenced in the geographical areas that each group inhabits, and the social and religious institutions which have emerged resulting in a number of distinct and self-contained communities (or sub-communities)' (p. 84). Although social and political factors tend to divide the Detroit Arab-American community in significant ways, the shared language, cultural heritage, and identity '…serve as a basis for communication and a common purpose which is becoming increasingly more visible in the pan-community organizations which serve the community as a whole' (p. 84).
