By: Pehrson, Robert N..

Abstract
Using data on the society and culture of the Könkämä Saami of northern Sweden, Pehrson develops a concept of bilateralism to explain many interrelated aspects of the organized life of the mountain Saami. After establishing the setting and history of this group, Pehrson examines the network of the kinship relations, marriage and affinity, inheritance and the kindred, kinship and locality, and wider aspects of kinship. Two appendices include a description of reindeer breeding during peactime and during World War II and a list of archival sources containing demographic and other data.
