Abstract
This work consists of a selection of the ethnographic writings of the Yugoslavian ethnographer Milenko S. Filipovic, edited and published after his death in 1968 by his American friends and colleagues of long standing (E.A. Hammel, Robert S. Ehrich, Joel M. Halpern, and Albert B. Lord), in conjunction with his daughter Dr. Radmila Filipovic-Fabijanic. The ethnographic topics given particular attention in this document deal with social organization and groups, as for example the ZADRUGA (extended family), ROD (lineage), BRATSTVO (brotherhood), PLEME (tribe), and kinship and marriage, and death. Portions of the cultural data presented in the text deal with other non-Serbian populations in Yugoslavia. These data have been indexed only for category 170 in the EF06 Serbs file for historical and cultural background.
