Abstract
This source is essentially a study of Badaga folk medicine with a concentration on both the cultural context of therapy and its wide-ranging pharmacopoeia. Although a major section of the book deals with the Badaga classification of curable illnesses, there are other chapters dealing with sexuality and reproduction, medical therapists and other specialists (including data on client-therapist relations and the recruitment of apprentices to the profession), general health care, and the advent of death. Of the several useful indices located at the end of the source, one in particular may be of special interest to pharmacologists. This index called the 'trilingual index of botanical identifications' provides a botanical listing of various plant substances used in the preparation of Badaga medicines.
