Notes
Chou Ta-kuan (Zhou Daguan) ; translated into English by J. Gilman d'Acry Paul from the French version by Paul Pelliot of Chou's Chinese original
Previously Published as: Notes on the customs of Cambodia. Bangkok : Social Science Association Press, 1967
"...the Social Science Association Press of Bangkok produced an English translation of the NOTES ON THE CUSTOMS OF CAMBODIA by Zhou Daguan (Chou Ta-Kuan). This was made possible by a grant from Mr Alexander B. Griswold of the Breezewood Foundation, a friend of whom, Mr J. Gilman d'Arcy Paul, did the translation from the French of Paul Pelliot. Pelliot's text, which appeared in the Bulletin de l'Ecole Francaise d'Extreme Orient in 1902, was itself a translation from the Chinese of Chou Ta-Kaun, who produced, as Peliot pointed out in his own preface, some time in the years before 1312 and after his return from a year's stay in Cambodia from 1296 to 1297, the only account of Angor at the height of its splendor.
