More specifically, it explores links between religious orientation and experiences in an ideologically plural setting. It argues that cultural models of 'changing places' serves to guide a number of Javanese practices such as child-borrowing, gender-switching, language use, and even religious conversion. These models, formed in childhood experience, engender and express a relativism which is highly valued in rural Java. %K Javanese (Indonesian people) %K Javanese %K Religious intolerance and martyrs %K Techniques of socialization %K Community structure %K Inter-community relations %K Religious experience %K Functional and adaptational interpretations %K Religious denominations %K Missions %K Family relationships %K Adoption %K Organized ceremonial %K Social personality %K Child care %K Mutual aid %K Kinship terminology %K Status of children %K Kin relationships %K Social relationships and groups %K Gender roles and issues %U https://ehrafworldcultures.yale.edu/document?id=oe05-039 %P 469-491 %[ 2022-08-13
