Collection Descriptions provide a quick overview of a culture included in eHRAF. They
typically contain a brief Culture Description, Collection Information and, where applicable,
Collection Indexing Notes.
- The Culture Description is a very succint overview of the culture written by eHRAF
staff. Culture Descriptions simply provide the name of the culture, geographic region details,
OWC identifier and a single paragraph about the culture.
- The Collection Information
describes the number of documents and pages held in eHRAF corresponding to that culture. A
brief culture overview by a HRAF anthropologist provides background on the collection of
documents, including the types of ethnographic subjects focused on by the various
- Collection Indexing Notes detail any relevant information about how HRAF's
anthropologists indexed the subject content inside the documents, such as how local cultural
categories or terminologies were interpreted for analysis and subject indexing.
