The majority of Turkmens in Central Asia live in Turkmenistan. They speak a Turkic language that is close to the languages of Turkey and Azerbaijan. The traditional Turkmen economy is divided between agriculturalists and pastoralists. Turkmens are predominantly Sunni Muslims.
