Abstract
This is a study of Warao ethnogeographical and cosmological beliefs presented in terms of their concepts of the physical universe and their ecological adaptation and religious orientation to it. The focus of the study are the Hoanarao or 'black-water' people (Mariusa, Winikina, Arawabisi) -- subtribes of the Warao, living in the central Orinoco Delta. The source discusses the natural geography of the region, the Warao people in general, mythical geography, mythical ecology, and concludes with a section on shamanistic ethnogeography.
