Dreaming as world view and action in Guajiro culture

Journal of Latin American Lore7 (2) • Published In 1981 • Pages: 239-254

By: Watson, Lawrence Craig.

Abstract
This essay shows specifically how the Guajiro have conceptualized dreams into a coherent cognitive model which defines the nature of Guajiro reality. As a statement of seemingly mysterious, yet orderly processes that underlie experience, dreaming in Guajiro culture functions ...as a guide to behavior, and, as such, serves social and psychological functions that are adaptive in the larger sociocultural context (p. 239).
