Abstract
This paper discusses the nature of inter-personal violence among Marshallese Islanders. It argues that violence is encountered among Marshallese Islanders but within the domestic sphere it is not necessarily initiated by males. Instead, the paper argues, interpersonal abuse takes place between older and younger siblings and between cousins, it is initiated by females as well as males, and its very presence within the community and its families threatens solidarity to the degree it require denial. With all these variations, the paper concludes, violence within the household must be viewed holistically, as a part of daily life.
