Abstract
This report is the result of field research undertaken by the author who was employed as Anthropological Field Consultant for the Marshall District by the Government of the Trust Territory. It describes how the land tenure system functions within the framework of the Marshallese kinship and political structure and the changes that occurred under the influence of foreign administration. A detail discussion of different categories of landholdings and inheritance rights is a major contribution of this essay.
