Agricultural subsistence and development

kiribati: a changing atoll culture[Suva, Fiji] • Published In 1985 • Pages: 155-165

Abstract
This work considers conditions for agricultural expansion in Kiribati, first by describing long-established practices for cultivating a variety of garden vegetables and fruits. The Kiribati people have increasingly relied on fishing and imported food as cultivation is limited by poor soils and land scarcity. These factors are likely to affect plans that seek to introduce new crops or livestock. For maps, glossary, and bibliographysee Mason (1985).
