Abstract
This study argues that the purpose of modern education in Kiribati should include preserving Kiribati culture, recommending the teaching of vernacular languages and craft-making skills to children in primary school. At the secondary school level it is suggested that the curriculum should focus on Kiribati culture, with emphasis on the social organization of communities, but also include English language and modern technology. For maps, glossary, and bibliography see Mason (1985).
