Mothers and infants

By: Teatao Tira, Rite.

Abstract
This document discusses the state of Kiribati maternal and child care. While recognizing recent expansion of health facilities and services, the author argues that children are suffering from malnutrition primarily caused by increasing dependence on cheap imported food. The problem is exacerbated by mothers' involvement in income-generating activities which, while economically helpful, reduce time for childcare. For maps, glossary, and bibliography see Mason (1985).
