Abstract: This dissertation examines the effects of colonization and missionization on Mewun society. Larcom discusses the nature of the changes brought to bear on the Mewun by missionaries and others, particularly in regard to transformations of the marriage system, and their response to such changes. This document also contains much information on kinship, fertility, demography, the NIMANGI age grade society, the importance of pigs in the society, the status of women, and sister exchange in marriage.
