Abstract
This work begins with a brief survey of Trobriand society, is followed by a discussion of the major questions about matrilineal and affinal relationships and the role of the father, then Sider's own reanalysis of the data presented in the earlier works of Malinowski, Powell, Robinson, and others in terms of these questions.
