Abstract
In this work Hutchins explores the nature of reasoning in a 'primitive' society (i.e., the Trobriand Islands), by employing a form of cognitive theory that has been developed during the past twenty years. This theory is applied to public litigation in the Trobriands. Information on land tenure, the village court system, and litigation procedures are presented in this monograph.
