Friendship and kinship: an attempt to relate two anthropological concepts

compact : selected dimensions of friendship (3) • Published In 1975 • Pages: 49-70, 146-162

By: Schwimmer, Eric G..

Abstract
In this source, Schwimmer examines Orokaiva friendship in the context of the Orokaiva system of personal relationships. He identifies four categories of Orokaiva friendship, characterized variously by cooperative alliance, reciprocating partnership, or 'total interdependence,' and shows that each of these categories corresponds to a similar kin-based category of personal relationships.
