Na'ilde': the Ghost Dance of the White Mountain Apache

Abstract
Na'ilde', a religious movement led by the prophet Knock-e-da-klinny in 1881, is the subject of this article. It is the author's belief that the movement was related to the earlier Ghost Dance movement among the Paiute and that the movement was fundamentally a 'nativistic' one according to the classificatory scheme developed by Anthony F. C. Wallace. Data for this analysis were drawn from reports and memoirs of U.S. government agents in charge of the Apache.
