Abstract
This monograph describes factors contributing to the academic difficulties of Western Apache students with special reference to the San Carlos Reservation. Parmee briefly reviews various aspects of the organization of 'Indian Education' since the 1950's, and then outlines the features of the community, family, and educational environment which seem to contribute negatively to the attendence and achievement records of the Apache youth.
