By: Basso, Keith H..

Abstract
This book is concerned primarily with caricatures of 'Whitemen' that occur in Western Apache joking behavior. The data were collected primarily at Cibecue. Basso presents a number of texts of jokes and discusses them in terms of metalinguistic devices, their function as an expression of what is offensive to the Apache about Anglo-Americans, and their function in solidifying social relationships among the Apache.
