The automobile in contemporary Navaho culture

Men and cultures ; selected papers, edited under the chairmanship of Anthony F. C. WallacePhiladelphia • Published In 1960 • Pages: 359-363

By: Vogt, Evon Zartman.

Abstract
This source is a straightforward, sometimes humorous account of Navajo adaptations to the automobile and adaptations of it according to their own culturally and socially determined designs. The author concludes that the introduction of the automobile has led both to significant changes in Navajo culture and to social disruption of non-mechanized patterns of mobility and sociability.
