Abstract
This work is an analysis of a botanical collection made by John and Louisa Wetherill sometime between 1906 and 1931. The analysis provides a compendium of Navajo ethnobotany covering the flora within a fifty mile radius of Kayenta, Arizona, Navajo plant nomenclature, and uses. Focus is on medicinal and ceremonial utilization. Data are presented on 240 plant species. Particularly useful are the cross references to other studies, notably other works by Wyman and Harris and studies by Vestal, Matthews, Elmore and the Franciscan Fathers. The reader should note that in many cases data were gathered from a single informant. Organizationally this is a technical source and the researcher should consult Category 128 for a full explanation of symbols and abbreviations. Two tables (see Category 824) provide lists of plants by medicinal and ceremonial uses.
